I'm reading your wonderful, informative and enlighten book Black Pain and I must say that I loved this book. I rented it from my local library but I look forward to having my own personal copy so I can go and reread whenever I'm feeling down.

I too suffer from major depression and let me be the first to say that I wouldn't wish this on anyone. I'm 37, a single mother of three, recently started college, and it's hard but I'm trying to take it step-by-step. I'm currently taking medication and sees a therapist every other week ( I'm looking to find another therapist because I feel that I don't see much progress. I will loved to chat with you about this). I'm juggling so much that at times I don't feel like doing anything but I have to keep going because I have my children that depend on me and I got to become self-sufficient. I need a career job because I am tired of struggling. Me and my children deserves the best and the only way is for me to continue with my education.

I feel that there are counseling centers out here but that they don't really help or care about Blacks who have mental illness, and are low-income. I'm not talking about all but the ones I have been to, which makes it even harder for people such as myself who are trying to overcome depression or other mental illness that some of us are facing.

I also will like to say that it will be a wonderful idea, if possible, if Black Pain can be contribute to Blacks who are in prison. I will loved to go to prisons and personally handle the books out to inmates to read. This will be a wonderful resource for them to have and to help them become successful, self-sufficient, healthy, and well-minded people once they are release.

Thank you for allowing me to express my feelings. I look forward to hearing from you. Keep up the good work. Continue writing books for US, to help US, and loving US:-)

Best regards,

BlackBettyBoop, Chicago, IL

Thank you for having the courage to both personalize and broaden the discussion on mental illness and depression: problems we as a people find it so hard to talk about. You are helping the community at a time when life has become more challenging than ever, even as avenues for hope and inspiration are expanding.

I am from the South. When I was growing up and you mention depression you were going to the "crazy house" (which was a Mental Hospital). I know I didn't want to go to the crazy house. So, I suffered in silence. I kept working as if nothing was wrong. You can do that only so long. I have an excellent therapy. I also have faith in Jesus Christ who has sustainied me thus far. If I could just help one person through through this journey, I 'd know this 45 year journey was not in vain. I fully support the Stay Strong Campaign. All I can say is is "thank you" for its development. The Stay Strong Campaign will exceed it's goal because God has placed some exceptional people at the helm. Blessing.

I think if possible, The book " Black Pain " should be

sent to prison's in this country so black females

and black men can heal themselves before they come back

to the black communities all across this country.
